Strawberries + Summer Weekend Eating
Published June 18th, 2006 in Fruit, Local SpotlightThe strawberries in the photo came from a roadside table under an umbrella along Route 5 in Schuyler. “They should be good - I just picked ‘em!” I bought two quarts, thinking that we wouldn’t get through them all just snacking on them, so I’d make something. Well, I never got around to making anything. Between my mom, sister, and Joe and myself, along with a little help from Erica, they were dispatched promptly.
We had a Father’s Day picnic as well this weekend. Sorry, too hot to take pictures. Steak on the grill, corn, potatoes, and caprese salad among other things, as well as the usual onslaught of desserts: this time including banana cream pie, Boston cream pie, and pumpkin pie bars. All tasty!
Joe and I also took in a movie (the highly silly Nacho Libre) at the El Rancho Drive-In in Palatine Bridge. In honor of drive-in snacks, here is a clip from YouTube:
