Ithaca Farmer’s Market - Tuesday in Dewitt Park
Published June 6th, 2006 in Local Spotlight
First, we need some Earl Grey & Lime Sorbet, made by Robert. I crave this throughout the summer and mourn the fact that I can’t eat it all winter long.

I’m going to eat two of these shortly for lunch. The speckled one in the top left corner is the most beautiful chicken egg I’ve ever seen, made even more so by the varied palette surrounding it.

I couldn’t resist the lemon basil. The smell is permeating the kitchen right now and making me crave linguini, with oil, garlic, lemon basil, and parmesan.

French breakfast radishes. These are going to be gone before the end of the day. A few will definitely be in my lunch. I should have filled my whole backpack up with these. Have you ever seen anything that wants to be bitten into so badly?

These were impossible to pass by. It was the day of the Radish.

Hiya. I did a short bit on the Rochester Farmer’s market on my site (under Finger Lakes Food frenzy very early on), but I haven;t been to the Ithaca Market in years. What days is it? My bet is that they have a somewhat funkier range of things — not least because they are just a tad further south. Only Tuesday?
Here is their website, which explains things in full: http://ithacamarket.com/
In short, the Market runs on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Tuesdays have a smaller group and they are located on the corner of Dewitt Park, downtown. Mostly produce and some prepared foods on that day.
The rest of the days are located at Steamboat Landing, along the lake. Weekends are the more touristy days, which tends to trigger my dislike of large crowds, but it can still be fun. The goods range from produce to prepared foods to crafts. It’s nice to go get a burrito or fritter and sit by the lake.
Thursdays are a bit later in the day and again its a slightly smaller group, but it’s also the best day (in my opinion) to actually “go grocery shopping”.
It’s definitely a stop worth making when visiting Ithaca!
